HEIDENHAIN Offers a New High Accuracy Linear Scale To Meet the Need for Miniaturization

SCHAUMBURG, IL - (March 2007) An increasing number of machining applications require ever smaller components, especially in the semiconductor and electronics industries. HEIDENHAIN Corporation, long setting the standards for accuracy and reliability in measurement components (especially evident in the LIDA 400 exposed linear scale) is now offering even smaller linear scales with the LIDA 500 series in order to meet this need for constant miniaturization and reduction of mass.

These new 20-µm incremental linear scales are useful where installation space is limited, and offer measuring steps of 1 µm to 0.1 µm. Their reduced mass gives them higher dynamic capability.

This LIDA 500 scale series - the LIDA 583 and LIDA 573 - each have two smaller scanning fields with double-field scanning. In order to compensate for the known disadvantages of small scanning fields, the signal is corrected online electronically, thus producing better signals.

The LIDA 500 series feature glass scales as the measuring standard and each encoder has a reference mark at the midpoint. They feature a ± 5 um accuracy grade, and a high degree of immunity to contamination. Easy mounting is characteristic of HEIDENHAIN's LIDA encoders, and this is no exception.

The series offers 1 Vpp or TTL interfaces.
