Resolvers
provide absolute position information and are capable
of operating in relatively high temperature and
shock environments. However, they are inflexible
in their application, and must be specifically "tuned"
to meet the drive system requirements. Encoders
on the other hand, can be absolute or incremental,
simplify the design task, are more accurate, allow
for a wider dynamic range and are more flexible.

The
ECI 119 sets itself apart with a low profile (h.
19 mm, O.D. 92 mm) and large through shaft (50,
38, or 30 mm), making it well suited for electric
motors in many applications, as well as on swivel
and tilting axes. There is no need to worry about
bearing wear or loading, and concerns of mechanical
self heating of the encoder and shaft currents
are eliminated. read
